How much time do you wait for the proper Moisture content in concrete when you are installing a wood floor.?
Right know I have a 5lb per 1000 sqft moisture release and the floor requires a 3lb per 1000 sqft to meet warranty specs based off a calcium cloride test. Over time the concrete will continue to cure and lose moisture. How long should I wait to retest the floor? Does concrete cure a certain rate to calculate days needed?
depends on the type of conrete that was poured, some is considered to be fully cured within 14 days, or 30 days. but usually at least 6 months – In colder areas like i live in new england- we try to wait at least one year to allow for a full cycle of hot and cold weather to occur since different amounts of moisture are released during different seasons.
If you can easily do so- then re-test in one month, if its still letting out to much moisture then wait 2 or 3 months.
Once you have reached the appropriate moisture release amount – I would recommend retesting again a few weeks later(2-4)- the reason for this is because in every area- the level of moisture released overall varies- you need not only to be looking at if the levels are ok now- but if they will continue to be ok and that the release of moisture has stabilized.
If you re-test a month after reaching a appropriate level and your concrete is till letting through the same 3lbs/1000 sqft, then you should wait awhile longer before installing the wood. I would say wait untill the moisture levels drop continuously for a few weeks – that way you know the chances of more moisture coming in are slim- and wood does not like moisture so the littlest amounts are better and if it takes waiting a few months – it will be well worth it.
